The questions prospective gym members ask most (and how to answer them online)
September 30, 2026 · 5 min read
Someone thinking about joining a gym usually has a handful of practical questions, and they often ask them in the evening, when your front desk has gone home. If the answers are hard to find, many will simply look at the next gym on the list. Here are the questions that come up again and again, and how to answer each one well.
1. “How much is a membership?”
The most common question, and the one gyms most often hide. You don't need to publish every deal, but give a clear starting price and what's included. “From $X/month, no contract” answers the question; “Contact us for pricing” sends people elsewhere.
2. “What are your opening hours?”
Include holiday hours and staffed vs. access hours if they differ. Keep them in one place and make sure it's text, not an image.
3. “Can I try it first?”
A free day pass or trial week is one of the strongest conversion tools a gym has. Say exactly how to claim it and what the person needs to bring.
4. “Is there a joining fee? Can I cancel?”
Worries about commitment stop people signing up. Be upfront about joining fees, minimum terms, freezing and cancellation. A clear answer builds trust even when the answer isn't “free and anytime”.
5. Class and coaching questions
- What classes do you run, and when?
- Are classes included or extra?
- Do you have personal trainers, and what do they cost?
- Is it beginner-friendly?
6. The practical stuff
Parking, lockers, showers, towels, childcare, accessibility. Small questions, but a missing answer can be the reason someone doesn't visit.
